Fire Safety
Spray foam insulation for Fire Safety in buildings.
The emergence of Fire Risk Assessments has profoundly influenced the design of new build properties and existing buildings.
This is evident in the latest developments within fire safety best practice and procedures, and especially with fire safety engineering principles introduced to varying degrees in new buildings design. A new standard BS9999 Fire Safety in the Design, Construction and Use of Buildings has been issued as a draft for development.
Once incorporated this will replace the majority of present BS5588 series of standards.
'Draft Document 9999' already published will have a great impact in determining the fire safety requirements of a building. Extended travel distances, reduced corridor, exit and stair widths will become mandatory, resulting in significant savings for clients. The new standard will provide design blueprint for the fire safety design of tomorrow.
This means that in the future, all fire safety requirements will be founded on the perceived level of risk within the building – a balance will need to be achieved between areas of weakness in required fire precautions and a building’s fire safety strong points.
Insulating to Building Regulations, Metropolitan Insulation Services’s Polyurethane Spray Foam provides rapid and robust insulation for existing and new buildings. With a Class O fire rating suitable for building interiors it also provides effective condensation control whilst maximising thermal efficiency.
Spray foam is easy and clean to apply, adheres to any surface instantly and is the ideal fire safety insulator for applications ranging from car parks and concrete soffits to roof internals and air plenums.
The benefits are far reaching...
- Class 0 to BS476 Parts 6 & 7.
- Speedy application, minimising the installation time and associated costs.
- Permanent and high performance adhesion to all substrates, negligible maintenance costs.
- Low thermal conductivity at reduced thicknesses and space saving.
- Non toxic and environmentally friendly.
- Penetrations caused by post installation work (ceiling hangers, cable trays etc.) can easily be sealed and repaired.
- Optimum fire retardant properties.
- Installed only by Metropolitan Insulation Services’s own expert technicians.
All of the standard spray foam we use has a fire rating of Class 1 according to British Standards guidelines BS476 Part 7.
Beware sub standard substitutes
Please be mindful that imported foam may be available in the UK that does not meet Class 1 fire rating specifications, but has been tested only to B2 standards (DIN 4102 B2). Compared to UK standard Class 1 or Class O foams, this product may be highly combustible and therefore extremely dangerous. It does not meet Building Regulations specifications and most insurance companies will not cover it. The old adage, ‘buy cheap pay dear’ springs to mind.
